PFLAG of Jacksonville awards scholarships each year to openly gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender scholars pursuing higher education. PFLAG of Jacksonville holds an annual scholarship banquet where scholarship recipients are honored, awarded their scholarships and invited to give a brief presentation. Individuals and businesses who have contributed to the scholarship program are also recognized. Recipients must meet eligibility criteria and be willing to share a personal story at the banquet. A committee of local educators with diverse backgrounds reviews all applications and selects the recipients based on eligibility, academic potential and achievement, and participation in school activities and in the LGBT community. Scholars may use the funds as needed as the scholarships are unrestricted.
