The 2015 Student Essay Scholarship is officially open. High school seniors will have the chance to win a $500 scholarship for their essay about the impact their school counselor has made on them. Scholarship Eligibility Requirements It is the goal of the Order Sons of Italy in America to promote, enhance, and encourage the studies of Italian Heritage and culture. This scholarship program is designed to benefit worthy students of Italian descent attending a Duval County Florida high school that display academic excellence, and leadership qualities. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of eligibility, scholastic achievement, and participation in school and community programs.

Asylees as Authors is pleased to announce that the contest for scholarships for 2014-15 is open to applicants as of today. First place for the best fiction short story is $5,000. Second place is $1,000. There is no fee to enter, but the applicant must be an asylee, refugee or former asylee or refugee (not a US citizen).

The deadline is May 15, 2015, and the winner will be announced before June 20, which is World Refugee Day. Arts for Life! annually awards $2,000 scholarships to 25 graduating high school seniors in Florida who demonstrate
excellence in one of the following art forms: creative writing dance drama music visual art In addition to the program’s $2,000 cash award, winners will be automatically eligible to receive a matching in -kind scholarship worth a minimum of $1,000 if they attend one of the participating Florida institutions for higher education: Broward College, College of Central Florida, Flagler College, Florida Atlantic University, Florida College, Florida Institute of Technology, Jacksonville University, Nova Southeastern University and Stetson University. Application Period The 2014-15 application period is October 1- February 2. Eligibility High school students who are graduating from a public, private, or virtual school or a home education program in Florida during the current academic year. Application Process Students must submit a completed application, a brief essay explaining “How the arts have positively influenced my life” and a portfolio of work in creative writing, dance, drama, music, or visual art. Selection Process A committee of judges for each of the five disciplines, comprised of respected experts, reviews and scores the students essays and work samples.
