ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
One Caribbean Inc. launched its Academic Scholarship program at the 2016 Caribfest. An award of $2,500 was presented by Commissioner Winston F. Barnes from Miramar, FL to Aiyana Jackson-Taylor who attended Samuel W. Wolfson High School and graduated with Honors. Aiyana submitted an essay entitled “Why I should receive the One Caribbean Inc. Scholarship Award” in which she described how she preserved through hardships of being raised by a single parent, homelessness, and her mother having a stroke. Despite adversity she excelled in school, becoming president and executive editor of the yearbook during her junior and senior years; was a member and secretary of the Distributive Education Clubs of America; and became a member of Senior Ladies and National Honors Society both groups dedicated to community service. She performed volunteer services for the Murray Hill Public Library, her church Miracle Temple and at the Clara White mission to help feed the homeless. Aiyana exemplified all of the requirements of the program to be our 2016 winner.
